My experiences of Valentine's Day...

So yesterday was one of my least favourite days of the year: Valentine’s Day. February 14th for me is just another ordinary day which over recent years has become over commercialised sending out the wrong message to people.

February 14th is not the only day you should lavish your partner with love – there’s three hundred and sixty four other days of the year to do this!
I am not one of St Valentine’s biggest fans. However, during my time at University, I have had three totally different experiences which I have shared with different people on each occasion.
During my first year of University, I had a boyfriend who I had been with pretty much since I began my degree. I had the stereotypical valentine’s gifts consisting of a rose, a humorous card and some other little gifts. Yet you would think if he got the presents right…he would get the date part of it right….Wrong!

My ex-boyfriend decided that our ideal Valentines date would be to take me to Weather spoons and buy me the burger and drink deal. Note to everyone: Before getting with someone – make sure they enjoy a variety of foods and are not one of the World’s fussiest people. Let’s just say that relationship did not last long after that…

My second Valentine’s Day at University consisted of getting very drunk at Oceana at the weekly student night entitled: ‘I Love Mondays’ or in the case of Valentine’s Day: ‘I Love being Single’. I lived with two other girls who were also single, so therefore it was the perfect excuse to go out and basically get trashed. Surprisingly from what I remember it was a very packed nightclub!

This year, I decided I did not want to make any effort at all towards Valentine’s Day. I currently live with another girl and three boys and only my housemate Lauren is currently in a relationship. Some friends and I decided to celebrate being single and embrace the ‘independent woman’. So last night we had a girly night in with lots of junk food, wine and we pampered ourselves. We only had one rule for the night: ‘Nobody mentions the V word’.
Who needs a man in their life? When a girl just needs the company of her friends!

So those have been my experiences of Valentine’s Day at Uni. What experiences have you had? I would love to know :)

  1. I really enjoyed reading this, it is very amusing and provides us with your own personal experiences. It is something we can all relate to. I have been in a relationship for a few years now and even I completely agree with your take on Valentine's day. It is simply just a way to make money. As for the layout of your blog, it is very unique compared to most blogs I have seen but it is still easy to navigate and makes use of simple colours as a way to attract but not distract.
Keep up the good work! :)
